1 · Set the USB mode
Wrench menu → Communication settings → USB connection → choose “PC connect” (some bodies call it “Photo import/Remote control”). If your body offers Mass storage, do not use it — PopStudio needs the camera to talk, not pretend to be a memory stick.
2 · Plug in and go
- Set the USB mode above, then power the camera off.
- Plug the camera into the laptop with a data USB cable. Many bundled cables are charge-only and will look like a dead camera.
- Power the camera on. PopStudio’s status strip turns green and names your body — “Canon EOS R6 — ready”.
- Take one test shot. It appears in the capture strip within a second or two, develops with your look, and delivers.
That's the whole connection. PopStudio talks to the camera directly over USB —
there are no folders to configure, no manufacturer transfer utility to keep running, and no
cloud round-trip between the shutter and the guest's inbox.
3 · Canon things worth knowing
- Quit EOS Utility first. Canon’s own software claims the camera exclusively — if it’s running, PopStudio can’t see the body. This is the single most common setup problem on Canon.
- Shoot JPEG Large/Fine. RAW+JPEG is fine if you want your own archive; PopStudio uses the JPEG and leaves the RAW on your card.
- Turn off auto power-off, or set it to the longest option. A camera that sleeps between guests wakes slowly and costs you queue time.
Settings for every brand
A pop-up studio is fixed lighting. Set once before doors open, then don't touch — PopStudio's look handles the rest, identically on every frame.

| Picture style | Neutral/Standard, sharpening default. Let the PopStudio look carry the character — double-styling fights itself. |
| Focus | AF-S / One-shot, single centre point or eye-AF. Tape the zoom ring once framed. |
Test shot rule: before doors open, shoot a frame of a person (not the empty backdrop), check it lands in PopStudio and the look reads right on the delivered photo. Two minutes now saves a whole evening.
